USA Limoges hires an Irish international pillar

USA Limoges announced on Thursday the signing of a thirteenth recruit. As he completes his third week of preparation, the Limougeaud squad will be reinforced by Rodney Ah You, the right pillar of Vannes (Pro D2).

Aged 33, Rodney Ah (1.85 m, 128 kg) constitutes, in view of his CV, a reinforcement of weight and experience in a position targeted by Adrien Buononato when resuming training. Born in Wellington, the New Zealander, who went through boxing before discovering rugby, made his mark in the province of Canterbury with which he won the Air New Zealand Cup in 2009.

A year earlier, the pillar had won the U20 world title with the Baby Blacks. Entered in the final against England, Rodney Ah You had in particular for partners Sam Whitelock, Zach Guildford and Aaron Smith.

Three selections with the XV of Ireland

In 2010, the New Zealander headed for Ireland where he joined the province of Connacht. Winner of the European Challenge and the Pro 12 in 2016, becoming eligible for the Irish selection, he will be retained in the squad of the XV of Clover for the tour in 2014. He will make his debut against Argentina and will then know two other selections.

After six years with Connacht, Rodney Ah You joined Ulster (2016-2018) then the Rugby Championship with Newcastle (2018-2021). Last season, he played for Vannes where he compiled ten matches, including three as a starter.

The arrival of Rodney Ah You is like a big blow to the transfer window for USAL, which confirms its desire to secure the services of players who have worked at the top level, like the other former Baby Blacks U20 world champion in 2009, three-quarter center Teddy Stanaway-Teo. The pillar is part of this logic and will bring its versatility _ it can also evolve on the left _ in addition to its power and its qualities in the current game.

With the signing of Rodney Ah You, USAL recruiting is coming to an end. The Limougeaud staff planned to recruit a versatile forward _ second – third line _ but remains attentive to the slightest opportunity for the start of the National 2 season that the Limougeauds will start on the weekend of September 10 and 11 in Beaublanc against Fleurance.
