Localimus, the digital company restaurant – Companies

Closer to an Odoo than an UberEats, this Mons scale-up offers companies a real online catering service.

“It’s like a physical company restaurant except that the kitchens are outsourced to local caterers. Orders are made on the web, the dishes are delivered and the employees only have to enjoy a lunch quality,” says founder Morgan Vanderelst. Everything that can be complicated in this kind of organization, whether it’s logistics or accounting, is managed by Localimus, a sort of caterer manager for corporate clients.

A commercial engineer by training, he had conceptualized his company as part of his graduation thesis: a digital solution helping caterers and restaurateurs to generate new income. Since its launch in 2013 and its successive improvements, hundreds of companies have taken a liking to the platform, including Danone, Infrabel and Samsung.

2 millions

The number of orders processed in 2020.

Crisis quickly digested

During the first lockdown in March 2020, Localimus saw its orders plummet. “We accused – 91% in three days. Our services already showed a strong seasonality, according to the holidays. And despite this sharp drop, our volumes started to rise again quite naturally when people returned to the office”, explains Morgan Vanderelst. Behind these data, note that it is the turnover of caterers, in the first line. Some were able to continue their activities during the crisis thanks to companies where the presence of staff was required. Because Localimus invoices its services to companies and offers a free departure formula to caterers. If they have slightly more specific needs, other “profitable” formulas are offered to them, such as a loyalty management system, a ticketing separate for hot and cold, etc. Localimus offers caterers a recurring business opportunity and a very efficient delivery organization. “We really serve as a facilitator between the company, the employees and the caterers, who can concentrate on their job and delegate the tedious aspects of the orders to us”, insists the founder.

The mayo goes up

And the recipe for the Mons SME takes: its turnover amounted to 550,000 euros last year, for an average growth of 120%. “The company, which break for two years, has become a beneficiary and is fully able to repay its debts and, little by little, to make its shareholders happy”, smiles Christian Castelain, co-founder of the successful software publisher Easi and historical investor in Localimus .

In addition to marketing made of telephone calls, Google Ads and other traditional techniques to reach its target audience, Localimus benefits from valuable word of mouth. “After all these years, HR knows us and above all, satisfied employees, when they change company, talk about our solution”, rejoices Morgan Vanderelst. “These are our best sellers”, punctuates his partner.
