[L’équipe Type] Quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes still at the top

[L’équipe Type] Quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes still at the top

Throughout the month of May and June, Touchdown News reveals the typical NFL team voted by the editorial staff. The idea is simple: select the best players at the moment T, to start the 2022 season. It is not a question of building for in 3 years (or 10), but of winning immediately.

For the group of quarterbacks, an old veteran is surrounded by two promising young people.

1 – Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs – 26 years old

2021 stats: 4,839 yards, 37 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 381 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns

Despite a terrible disappointment in the 2021 Conference Finals, Patrick Mahomes is still at the top after an absolutely historic start to his career. Quadruple Pro Bowler, MVP, Super Bowl MVP, there is almost nothing missing from the individual record of the former Texas Tech quarterback.

While Mahomes has recently been in media “turmoil” after losing the Super Bowl to the Buccaneers and the conference final against the Bengals, we must not forget that he continues to continually take his team to the top each season. 151 touchdowns for 37 career interceptions, this stat alone illustrates the dominance of Patrick Mahomes on the league. Indisputable holder of our typical team, the master to play for the Chiefs in the future in front of him.

2 – Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – 38

2021 stats: 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, MVP

While he is old enough to enjoy his millions, Aaron Rodgers prefers to pile up the MVP titles. Imperial in the regular season, Rodgers has been struggling in the playoffs for more than a decade now. This does not prevent him from still being recognized as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Recently extended at a gold price, Rodgers will be under a lot of pressure in 2022 without Davante Adams, but he has the talent to continue to tame opposing defenses. Its main asset: 1.3% of passes intercepted, absolutely crazy in an NFL where cornerbacks are more and more punitive.

3 – Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills – 26 years old

2021 stats: 4,407 yards, 36 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, 763 rushing yards, 6 touchowns

In constant progression since his arrival in the NFL, Josh Allen has achieved the hardest part: confirming after an extraordinary season. Actor of a legendary match against the Chiefs of Mahomes in the playoffs, he is a player on the border of the double threat, so physically dominant that he is as dangerous on the ground as in the air.

Prototype of the modern quarterback, he takes the podium after not picking up any points in our poll 2 years ago. What is the limit? Impossible to define today. The future is bright in Buffalo, and Allen is the main reason for that.

Overheard at the editorial office

“Amazed to see Tom Brady being buried again. At instant T, he remains Top 3”, Alain Mattei

“Lamar Jackson is misunderstood by this editorial. I still do not understand that Rodgers evening in front of Brady”, Raphaël Masmejean.

“Rodgers is too high, given his last performance in the playoffs. Happy to see the new generation taking power”, Victor Roullier

“Mahomes has not always reassured in 2021, sometimes stereotyped in his game as soon as things go wrong, his choices have sometimes raised questions. Innocent or complex bad pass of the hero I expect more. Be careful not to be definitely upstaged by the young guns Herbert and Burrow”, Alexandre Lauque.

“Curious to see if Brady is still really that high. I hope to see some “young wolves” go up in this ranking at the end of the year”, Raoul Villeroy.

“Interesting to note that the supposed succession of Brady, Brees and Manning (Wilson, Stafford, Cousins, Ryan) has already been supplanted by a new generation of young wolves of unprecedented precocity (Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert). In the right place at the wrong time”, Marc Orfila.

Editor’s Votes

1 – Patrick Mahomes – 141 points
2 – Aaron Rodgers – 118 points
3 – Josh Allen – 108 points

Scale: 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 9 points… 10th = 1 point.

The rest of the top 10 is for tomorrow!
