The gratin of all-terrain – Trends-Tendances sur PC

The Range has always symbolized the improbable marriage between leather and mud, splendor and a taste for adventure. The latest generation of the model (the fifth, already) is no exception to tradition. The Range has always symbolized the improbable marriage between leather and mud, splendor and a taste for adventure. The latest generation of the model (the fifth, already) is no exception to tradition. Beneath the 80% aluminum molded platform, the passenger compartment resembles a true cocoon that can accommodate up to seven passengers for the first time (in the long version only). At the rear, you can even have a reclining seat with footrest, for a trip in first class. And almost in weightlessness since the passengers are posed on a soft pneumatic suspension with variable height which erases all the deformations of the coating. Under the hood, there are classic diesel or gasoline engines, with six or eight cylinders (from 249 to 530 hp) but also two plug-in hybrid engines (440 or 510 hp), combining a six-cylinder gasoline engine and a electric. Their battery offers up to 100 km of autonomy in electric with, in the key, a maximum deductibility for the self-employed. But for this test, we had the gasoline V8 version of 530 hp. This original BMW engine knows how to be discreet or aggressive on demand, even if its consumption is also à la carte… The chassis follows the rhythm well, supported by its many electronic aids – including rear steering wheels which make this credenza more agile in turns and also allow it to steer like a small Golf. That said, the elephantine size remains a handicap in town and at certain junctions. The price is also a brake: the entry-level diesel starts at 128,581 euros and our very richly equipped test V8 was close to 200,000 euros … A royal price. But this new Range impresses with its extreme on-road/off-road versatility, the well-being of its interior and also its typically British class: it certainly exudes an opulent character but without turning into bad taste or the bling-bling side of some competitors.
