The new French star of the basins offered his second title, Wednesday, on these world championships of Budapest (Hungary).
He is unstoppable. Léon Marchand won, on Wednesday June 22, his third medal in three finals in the 200 meter medley. And he was not looking for just any. The Toulousain proved to be the strongest and conquered gold, for the second time in these World Championships in Budapest. A performance that further confirms his place among the best swimmers of his generation.
With a time of 1’55″22, the protege of Bob Bowman improved the best national mark. He finished ahead of the American Carson Foster 1’55″71, who had nevertheless spent a good part of the race in the lead. The Japanese Daiya Seto completes the podium (1’56”22).
“Frankly, it’s amazing! I did well to be there [ligne] 4, I managed to manage and run my race“, reacted the prodigy at the microphone of France Télévisions just after the race which brought him the gold. Coincidence of history, 24 years after his father Xavier Marchand at the Perth Worlds (Australia) in 1998, the son did better than the dad’s silver medal.
