As we announced ten days ago, AS Monaco had made Takumi Minamino (27) a priority for this start of the transfer window. The Japanese international striker (41 caps, 17 goals), despite obvious qualities and good performances when he was on the pitch in the colors of the Reds (ten goals and one assist in 24 matches in all competitions this season), has never been able to truly establish himself within Liverpool.
What frustrate the former RB Salzburg player who had also landed in the winter of 2020 on the banks of the Mersey. Tired of not being able to have a role to play with the Reds, Minamino had made a departure this summer a priority. Tracked by Monaco but also more recently by OL who also thought they could win the day, Minamino made his choice and it was finally the club from the Principality who achieved one of the first big shots of the transfer window in Ligue 1.
A transfer of €15 million
According to our information, an agreement has also been reached in recent hours between the third in the last Ligue 1 championship and the finalist in the last Champions League for the Japanese, who was still under contract with Liverpool until June 2024. The transfer fee amounts to €15 million payable in five instalments.
AS Monaco therefore recovers a vengeful player with a great thirst for play. Right-handed, he is able to evolve on the whole front of the attack and will be a reinforcement of weight and experience for Philippe Clément. His ability to make the difference and score goals should necessarily help the Monegasque club to perform in Ligue 1, but also in the preliminary round of the Champions League.
