Camilla, future queen consort, photographed by British “Vogue”

The fashion magazine met the wife of Prince Charles, who spoke at length about her career and her daily life.

Beyoncé is not the only one queen to dress the latest issue of vogue British. In the pages of the magazine’s July edition, of which the American star is on the cover, a real crowned head is given a portrait for the first time: Camilla Shand, formerly Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles and future queen consort.

On the occasion of her 75th birthday, on July 17, the Duchess of Cornwall confided in journalist Giles Hattersley about her family life, the couple she formed with the future king of England, the years when the tabloids have targeted her, and her charitable commitments. All illustrated by photos taken by Jamie Hawkesworth at Clarence House, on which she appears dressed in pieces from her wardrobe.

Camilla Shand mentions in particular her role as godmother of the SafeLives association, which helps victims of domestic violence: “I think we all know someone to whom it happened,” says the one who claims to be a feminist.

“I heard about it too often, from friends who knew friends, and I thought maybe I should look into it, and see if I could help.”

“I’ve been scrutinized for so long”

She also returns to the disfavors of public opinion, very strong during the 1990s, when she was perceived as Diana’s rival. “It’s not easy,” she says. “I’ve been scrutinized for so long that you just have to find a way to live with it. Nobody likes to be stared at all the time, to be criticized and… But I think in the end, I rise to the above that and I get used to it. You have to keep living.”

Especially since at the time of the formalization of her relationship with Prince Charles, Camilla Shand was a divorced woman, already the mother of two children. A profile far removed from the polished personalities favored by Buckingham. So many controversies that are now part of the past, as the Duchess seems to indicate when referring to her relationship as a couple, which she and her husband combine with two very busy schedules:

“It’s not easy sometimes, but we always try to have a moment in the day that we spend together… We always sit together and have a cup of tea and talk about our day.”
